About
How it all began
Vantage Vision & Reading began in Kamloops, BC in the 1960's by Alice Ross. She worked alongside an optometrist Dr. Len De Marchi to develop the assessments and created programs from there. VVR began as ‘Bonding the Senses’. After seeing the success of the programs with children who were falling throught the cracks without obvious reasons, Alice and another teacher began a business offering the programs as reading difficulties remediation. In Prince George, BC, VVR started off as a business venture but eventually became non-profit with the main goal of helping struggling readers without costing thousands of dollars. Mrs. Ross passed away in September 2017.
Milly Saville started the Vantage Vision Programs in 1989. After a leave of illness she restarted the programs in Prince George under the retraining of Alice Ross-who was still doing programs in her home at the age of 82 though the business practice had long ceased. In 2007, Milly Saville took over the organization, Alice basically turned the programs over to Milly to be used wisely and affordably to all. Milly has helped to increase Alice’s work to where there are now thousands who have been helped! She has since retired.
Colleen Kerkhoff
Vantage Reading Instructor, Workshop Facilitator
Colleen Kerkhoff worked in the Special Education department in various schools for ten years. In 2014 she worked alongside Milly Saville and learned more about Vantage Vision & Reading. After completing the VVR Assessment Training Workshop in 2015 she began working independently from her home in BC. A few years later, she moved to Ontario and continued her VVR work here. During the Summer of 2023 the first Ontario VVR Assessment Training Workshop was held. Colleen’s goals are to certify more Vantage Training Instructors through workshops as well as helping individuals of all ages succeed!
